Project Overview

UIG designed an advanced Air Separation unit to supply essential gases—oxygen, nitrogen, and argon—to a steel mill operated by our customer. The project also included the production of liquid products, along with a robust backup storage and distribution system to ensure seamless operations. However, the execution of this project faced significant challenges due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in the USA, which caused major supply chain disruptions and other unforeseen obstacles.

The Client’s Challenge

The project faced significant challenges, mainly related to maintaining the schedule. Supply chains were disrupted in unprecedented ways. One notable issue involved a piece of equipment that, under normal circumstances, would have been swiftly installed upon arrival. Instead, it sat idle due to delays and shifting schedules. Unfortunately, the equipment wasn’t adequately prepared for medium-term storage and experienced detrimental effects. When we finally started up the equipment, it suffered a catastrophic premature failure.

The UIG Solution

Our team sprang into action, flying experts and parts across the country and mobilizing our network of shops and specialists to execute a rapid repair. There were other similar situations, but the core message remains the same—our team stayed dedicated to successfully completing the project and delivering a reliable ASU. At UIG, we honor our commitments and treat our customers as true partners.
