What does UIG do?

UIG is the second largest American owned industrial gas company and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Nucor, America’s most sustainable steel and steel products company. We design, supply, build, own, and operate industrial plants that primarily produce oxygen, nitrogen, and argon. UIG also performs industrial gas engineering and field services to existing industrial gas plant owners and engineering firms.

Do I have to lease my onsite gas plant from UIG, or can I buy it?

UIG prides ourselves on flexible commercial options to suit our customers’ needs. Whether through a gas supply contract or providing a plant for the end user to own, UIG is committed to working with our customers to determine what works best for them.

My gas consumption varies, can UIG help size my onsite gas plant?

UIG designs plants for many end users with variable or batch gas consumption. As part of our process, UIG is keen to learn how your application consumes gasses and has several proven methods for sizing plants to ensure gas product is available when needed.

I want to own my onsite gas plant to avoid a long term gas supply contract but don’t have experience operating it. How can UIG support operations?

UIG understands and appreciates the challenges long-term gas supply contracts present to some and we offer to sell plants to our customers to avoid those contracts. UIG also provides operations support to industrial gas plant owners. From a Lifecycle Support Program to an Operate and Maintain arrangement, UIG has the desire and experience to keep your plant running safely and efficiently.

I own an onsite gas plant built by another company and need support. Can UIG help me?

Yes, aside from employing industrial gas professionals from all the major industrial gas companies, UIG has a rich history of working on used and relocated plants. We’ve seen plant designs from all over the world and have the know-how to support your gas operations.

When does onsite gas generation become more cost effective than liquid delivery?

It depends on how much gas your application requires and where you are physically located. Generally speaking as gas consumption and distance from existing liquid plants increases, the more attractive onsite gas generation becomes. We are happy to learn more about your particular application to advise which supply mode best suits you.

My process is currently served by an onsite gas plant and it is aging. When should I consider replacing it?

There are several factors that go into repair/replace evaluations of gas plants. Generally speaking, new onsite generators can take up to 2-3 years from purchase to product availability. UIG provides evaluations of existing assets to understand where the asset is in its useful life. We also provide operations and maintenance support that can extend the life of your plant. We are happy to learn more about the challenges your plant faces and help develop a plan to keep your application supplied with gas for as long as you need it.
